He could hear his phone before he even reached it. Their game had just ended as the all-star selections were announced, what timing they managed to have. The constant buzzing sound coming from his locker was heard by all. He was grateful he had bothered to put it on vibrate before the game; otherwise his teammates might have just killed him for the constant sound of his ringtone going off. It was reminiscent of the year before but instead of sympathy and consoling texts, tweets and voicemails, it was congratulations and joyous remarks of his selection to the all-star game. Jason was in disbelief that in the span of a year he was going from being left off the roster to starting in the game. He shoved his phone into his pocket choosing to once again ignore it, at least until he was in the privacy of his own place. He paused on his way out of the clubhouse to seek out their manager knowing he hadn’t done it completely on his own. If they hadn’t taken a chance on letting him play third this whole day wouldn’t have been possible.

Back in his own place after some razzing from his roommate and teammate he ventured onto their balcony with a beer in his hand. Scrolling through his phone he found the one number he knew he needed to call and held the phone to his ear listening to it ring. He already had a voicemail from her but he wanted to hear to jubilation in her voice for himself, not on some recording.

“Hey ma, so how would you and dad like to take a vacation to Minnesota next week?”
